Hair doesn't absorb or retain moisture the same once you have transitioned to natural. We sometimes have to give it a boost. Relaxed hair can sometimes need a boost as well. If your hair tends to stay dry and does not absorb moisture well, this treatment is for you. If you wear braids and weave often you should consider hydration therapy as well. I love hydration steam therapy because it allows the moisture to penetrate throughout all strands of hair allowing manageability and longer lasting styles.

Here are a few summer haircare tips while planning vacations, pool time, outside cookouts, and summer concerts.

• Get ends trimmed
  
• Get a deep conditioning treatment
  
• Lightly massage scalp daily with fingertips
  
• Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
  
• Don't forget your satin wraps or pillowcases
  
• Sun proof and pool proof your hair by using pretreatment
  
• If in sun more than normal, minimize oils and use more cream based moisturizers
  
• Check your tools. Combs and brushes with missing or broken teeth should not be used.
  
• Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and eat watermelon! LOL!! Seriously... watermelon (with seeds)are great for you this time of year.

The voice of a Hairstylist, Barber, Makeup Artist, or Nail Tech may be the 1st and sometimes the only one offering encouragement and motivation to those who need it. As hair and care professionals our position is very important to the heads we hold daily and ourselves. We have to maintain our business, safety, and personal lives as well. ABLE Conversations Professional Stylist Edition is held once a quarter on a Monday during lunch hours. This quarterly meetup brings beauty professionals together to network, share resources, and have amazing conversations to strengthen personally and professionally.

• Keep wool away from hair especially the hairline.

Hair – an extension of your epidermis, the outer layer of your skin and is composed mainly of protein/keratin. This is why protein or keratin treatments should be done only by a professional.  Adding more protein can harden the hair which causes drying and breakage. A professional haircare specialist will know the best treatment for your hair.

What is healthy hair?

Hair that has balanced porosity (ability to absorb moisture), balanced elasticity (ability to stretch), free from split ends, no breakage.

Hair type, texture, color, length, curl pattern, etc. does not determine the health of hair.

Relaxed hair and natural hair can be healthy. 

Scalp – the layer of skin on the head from which the hair grows that contains muscles, tissue, sebaceous glands, and the follicles which houses hair strands. A healthy scalp leads to healthy hair.
